So, what exactly is kombucha?
Practically speaking, it is a sweetened tea that is fermented with a SCOBY (a symbiotic colony of bacteria and yeast) to become a nutrient-rich, low-sugar beverage – it’s alive with helpful organisms! But don’t let that scare you, kombucha is renowned for it’s wonderful health benefits like detoxification, increased energy, better digestion and weight loss. Kombucha may be one of the latest health trends, but this fizzy fermented beverage has been around for thousands of years – seriously, they have record of it in China around 200 BC! And as the owner of Baba’s Brew, Olga Sorzano, reflects on her mother’s words, “Many new things are nothing but well-forgotten old ones.” Kombucha is certainly making it’s way back into our lives with the help from passionate folks like Sorzano.
We’re excited to welcome the return Baba’s Brew, brewer of delicious kombucha. Named for Sorzano’s “baba”, or grandmother, who first nourished her granddaughter with her own homemade kombucha. Baba’s ‘bucha is brewed with organic fair trade teas and sugar, infused with locally sourced produce and fermented with love.
